The practice of architecture changed rapidly at the end of the twentieth century by the use of computer aided design (CAD) and CNC manufacturing. In the past year, the profession has entered a new disruption from the adoption of A.I. and generative design technologies, that hold the promise of simplifying and enhancing the work of the architect, if not replace them altogether. However, the future of architecture may ultimately be found in biology, with the introduction of wet labs as the latest architectural tool, to develop new organic and living materials for growing and healing buildings, rather than constructing and maintaining them.
