2020.06.11 – Lecture 4
An examination of Antoni Gaudí’s perverted distortions in warped form weighted by metaphor in the exterior façade and dining chair of Casa Batlló beginning in 1904 and Casa Milà following Setmana Tràgica. His explorations will be compared with his contemporaries’ works Casa Lleó-Morera by Domènech i Montaner, Casa Amatller by Puig i Cadafalch, Casa Comalat by Valeri i Pupurull, and the Pabellón Puente by Zaha Hadid. Local examples, Louise Bourgeois’s sculpture for Agnes R. Katz Plaza, Mattress Factory installations by Jene Highstein and Rolf Julius will be discussed, as well as Pittsburgh’s own Illa de la Discòrdia Sampsonia Way with City of Asylum’s House Poem by Huang Xiang.
